Raiders part ways with Trent Brown

This would be actually the worst-case scenario for the Raiders. If Brown is unable to keep his weight from ballooning (he entered training camp in 2020 reportedly at 400lbs), and the Raiders aren’t sold on his work ethic, releasing him makes the offensive line the top off-season priority instead of the defense.

The right tackles who are reasonably available in free agency are younger players who haven’t started much in the NFL, and unfortunately wouldn’t be an upgrade over Brandon Parker. The Raiders would have to make a big-money push for an aging vet like Ty Nsehke (36,) or Demar Dotson (36) for them to leave their respective teams (Buffalo & Denver), which would only be a band-aid.

The Raiders would still likely have to draft a tackle early in this scenario so draft capital and actual capital would be spent trying to replace Brown when the front office needs to be focusing their time looking at the defense.

Either way, Trent Brown’s contract, and the player have put the Raiders in a precarious situation entering 2021. The Raiders’ offensive line requires continuity to execute the zone blocking scheme and unlock the run game (ranked 24th in 2020), so we will see what happens with Brown this offseason.
