Should the Raiders extend Carr?

With all of that being said, should the team extend Carr? Although I am not sure if Carr can carry the poor defense of this team, there are really no better options than Carr. Although quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers may be able to lead a team like Las Vegas deep into the playoffs, the list of other quarterbacks who can is extremely short.

Deshaun Watson went 4-12 this year with a Texans team that isn’t too far off of the Raiders in terms of skill. I do believe the Raiders should extend Carr, but it has to be a team-friendly contract. If the Raiders pay Carr like a top-five quarterback, the team will continue to struggle with money, and will not be able to build the defense.

Las Vegas can actually save money this year if they extend Carr, giving the team a chance to add talent to a roster that lacks it. The extension also should not be a long one, because although I do not believe Carr is the problem, he has not proven to be the answer.

If Carr can take a team-friendly, two-year extension, I believe it is the right choice. If Las Vegas cannot improve over that time, no matter how bad the defense is, they will need to move on.
