Raiders: 10 cut candidates to keep an eye on

  • DL Jurrell Casey, Denver Broncos
  • Cap savings if cut: $11.9 million

Jurrell Casey didn’t have an opportunity to extend his streak of at least five sacks and Pro Bowl nods because he tore his biceps and missed 13 contests this past season.

Casey’s cap number seems too rich for a 31-year-old player coming off a major injury. The Denver Broncos may save nearly $12 million and draft a much cheaper replacement.

With that said, Casey only missed five games through his first nine campaigns. The five-time Pro Bowler could bounce back in a healthy season.

As a disruptive interior force for most of his career, Casey can rotate with Maurice Hurst and perhaps an early-round draft pick for a collective consistent push through the interior gaps.

Casey’s proven track record of chasing down quarterbacks should draw interest from a Raiders squad that needs a game-wrecker at the 3-technique position on the defensive line. If he commands attention on the inside, the 10-year veteran could create sack opportunities for the edge-rushers.
