Given Greg Newsome II’s longer frame, some may assume that he might not be the quickest in short spaces given his length. That could not be any further from the truth, as he displays some of the most flexible hips and closing speed from the cornerback position in the 2021 NFL Draft class.

While he may not possess blazing top-end speed, Newsome II has adequate stride length to recover and make a play on the football in pass coverage. Also, he is a sound tackler and does not hesitate to assist in run support.

With that being said, his ability to play on the outside opposite of Las Vegas Raiders starting cornerback Trayvon Mullen would make for a  physically imposing pairing.

Raiders DB coach Ron Milus can improve Greg Newsome’s minimal flaws.

No draft prospect is perfect, and development is key to maximizing each draft pick’s potential at the NFL level. Greg Newsome II is an overall outstanding cornerback prospect; however, his durability is a slight concern as he missed a few games in each of his three seasons at Northwestern University.

Regardless, he could truly become a lockdown cornerback at the next level.

The Las Vegas Raiders have one of the NFL’s best secondary coaches in Ron Milus, as he has coached numerous NFL Pro Bowlers at both the cornerback and safety positions, and he knows how to maximize players’ potential under his tutelage.

The Raiders should not hesitate to acquire Newsome II in the 2021 NFL Draft. He is a prospect that is being potentially overlooked because of a few injuries, along with the fact that he does not per se come from a collegiate football powerhouse. Regardless, the Silver and Black have the ability to put the Wildcats back on the map in April if they were to acquire their standout prospective cornerback.
