Safeties who match the Las Vegas Raiders needs in Draft and Free Agency

2021 NFL Draft, Day 3

  • Richard LeCounte ~ 5’11 190 **Round 4 to 5**

Richard LeCounte is another player blessed with movement skills that make his transitions look effortless, and there’s no doubt about it he has the athleticism required to play in the NFL. There were times, however, when it looked like his instincts weren’t very polished, however, and he would go long stretches of games without making an impact in 2020.

  • Damar Hamlin, Pittsburgh ~ 6’1 200 **Round 5 to 6**

Hamlin is a very smart player who played cover safety in a split field quarters defense much like Trevon Moehrig. As the general of the defense, you can see him communicating with his teammates and helping them make plays.

Hamlin’s athleticism is a question mark, however, and he simply doesn’t have the same burst as the above players on this list, but late in the draft, you could do worse than adding a smart player who tackles well.

The Raiders have been known to find gems in Day 3 of the NFL Draft under Mike Mayock, and this year should be no different. They could certainly add two safeties with their 2021 NFL Draft picks, so keep an eye on the position group even if they enter Day 3 with safety already selected.
