If the Raiders are looking for a speed demon to back up Josh Jacobs then they should look no further than Matt Breida. After two productive seasons with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent, Breida was traded to the Miami Dolphins where, due to a combination of injury and COVID issues, was not able to make much of an impact.

The Dolphins had to constantly reshuffle their backfield and Breida not being able to stake claim to a job there is concerning but he was never cut out to be a starter in the NFL. On the smaller side at 5’10”, 190lbs Breida is a speed back that can explode past defenders in the open field. He ran a 4.3 40 coming out of Georgia State and that speed has translated to a 4.9 yard per carry average and touchdown runs of 83 and 66 yards in his career.

Breida does not have the raw statistical totals that jump off the page but his speed makes him an intriguing prospect as a backup running back. He can be a different type of change of pace back and he is a player that defenses always have to account for because of that game-breaking ability. The former 49er is also a weapon in the passing game and is a reliable receiver out of the backfield.

None of these signings would create massive headlines but several of these backs could make big impacts for the Raiders offense and could be wise signings if the team chooses to go in that direction.
