Malcolm Brown is another name on this list that came from humble beginnings as an undrafted free agent but has shown he is a capable player in the NFL. The former Texas Longhorn has been with the Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams since 2015, but has only been a factor on offense since 2017.
Brown has spent most of his time as a special teamer, but got an extended look in the LA backfield in 2020, setting career highs in attempts, yards, receptions, and receiving yards. Cam Akers and Darrell Henderson outcarried Brown and they appear to be the Rams’ longterm backfield so that frees up Brown to likely sign elsewhere.
The Texas native is a no nonsense running back that appears destined to be a career backup and provides nothing new for the Raiders on offense. He would be another decent signing, and could likely be had for the minimum unless a team has higher hopes and expectations for him.
With a similar build to Josh Jacobs, Brown does not offer a different skillset or bring any versatility to the offense but would be a dependable player to have on the roster. He can also play special teams and can help justify his place on the roster by contributing to that phase of the game.
