Las Vegas Raiders: 2021 Mock Draft Roundup entering March

Pro Football Focus- Anthony Treash

  • #17: Edge Kwity Paye, Michigan
  • #48: S Richie Grant, UCF

The Raiders’ defensive struggles at all three levels need to be addressed if they ever hope to genuinely compete, especially with all the talent in the AFC West at quarterback. In the latest PFF mock draft, they have Las Vegas upgrading the pass rush and secondary, starting with Michigan’s edge rusher Kwity Paye, who may be the best athlete in the entire draft, having been ranked number one on Bruce Feldman’s freak list.

"“Paye only played in four games this past season, but he was still able to rack up 22 pressures to go with an 87.1 pass-rush grade. He is an athletic freak and showed signs of improvement from a technical standpoint in 2020.”"

Then in the second round, they have the Raiders going secondary with UCF safety Richie Grant.

"Las Vegas has to keep swinging the bat to improve the secondary until they find the right guys…Grant has a lackluster physical profile, but he makes up for it with his read-react ability."

PFF analysts are always big believers in taking multiple swings at a position year after year until a team gets its rights, so this pick makes sense. The Raiders have not gotten great pass rush out of Clelin Ferrell, their No. 4 overall pick in 2019, so adding an edge rusher makes sense.

This would not be a bad haul for Las Vegas at all, as they would be adding a substantial athletic boost on the defensive line and more stable play on the back end. Grant is one of the more perfect fits for this Raiders defense in this draft class, and getting him in the second round could prove to be a steal.
