Las Vegas Raiders: Is Russell Wilson a realistic option or a pipe dream?
The Athletic shed light on the rocky relationship between Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks. In the report, the Las Vegas Raiders popped up as a potential trade destination for the Super Bowl-winning quarterback. Is this a feasible scenario?
For starters, let’s remember the Raiders are content with Derek Carr. They’ve turned down offers for him, one from the Indianapolis Colts, per Jim Ayello of the Indianapolis Star. He’s the probable starter for the 2021 season. But as general manager Mike Mayock says, the team will look for upgrades every year.
Assuming that’s true, Mayock and head coach Jon Gruden would undoubtedly consider Wilson, who’s helped lead the Seahawks to eight playoff appearances behind some of the worst offensive lines and alongside some average-to-below average defensive units over the last two seasons.
Going into his age-33 campaign, Wilson isn’t showing decline either. He just threw for a career-high 40 touchdowns, ranked seventh in quarterback rating (105.1) and eighth in QBR (73.5). In 2019, he had a hand in guiding the Seahawks to 11 wins despite the club’s 26th-ranked defense, which also listed 22nd in scoring.
According to The Athletic’s Michael-Shawn Dugar, Mike Sando, and Jayson Jenks, Wilson has urged Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll to upgrade the offensive line. He’s taken at least 41 times every season since 2013.
