Raiders News and Rumors: OL, Derek Carr, Agholor, and more

Richie Incognito Preparing for a Return?

After a year away from the NFL, Richie Incognito had a strong showing through the 2019 campaign. According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed just nine pressures. Despite committing eight penalties, he brought an edge to the Raiders’ offensive line and opened big holes for running back Josh Jacobs, who ran for 1,150 yards and seven touchdowns.

This past season, Incognito only played two games because of multiple injuries, most notably, an Achilles issue, which required surgery. Back in November, the Raiders placed him on injured reserve.

Tafur shared some encouraging news about Incognito’s recovery in a mailbag response.

"“Incognito, 37, is already back running and is ready to return to the Raiders next season,” Tafur wrote. “It’s not a done deal, as Incognito’s $5 million salary for next season is not guaranteed, and the Raiders are currently over the cap. I doubt that Gruden messes with Incognito’s money, given how much he loves the guard’s intensity and thinks that his leadership was missed last season.”"

Even at 37 years old, going on 38 in July, Incognito may have more left in the tank. With $5.5 million left on the final term of his deal, he has a smaller cap hit than Brown and Jackson.

Because of positive signs in Incognito’s recovery, he’s more likely to retain his roster spot if the Raiders make larger cuts elsewhere. Mariota and Joyner seem most likely to go. On the flip side, if the Raiders plan to do a lot of shopping during free agency, they may release one of the following players: Brown, Jackson, or Incognito.
