Las Vegas Raiders: One draft prospect to target from each top-25 program

We talked about how the Raiders need to continue investing in the secondary, and more often than not, the best in the league tend to be taken in the early rounds. And when it comes to zone corners, there aren’t many better players in this draft than Northwestern’s Greg Newsome II.

He is a smart player with great feet and ideal arm length to be a part of a Gus Bradley defense, one of the more zone-heavy schemes in the league. He is a little on the lean side at 190lbs on his 6’1 frame, but outside of that, there are not a ton of holes in his game. Long speed may not be elite, but he makes up for it with great short-area quickness.

There has also been a few nagging injuries in college but nothing that would worry a team long term. Newsome should be high on the Raiders list of all the day two picks discussed thus far if they target secondary. If he’s available at pick 48, there should not be much hesitation in selecting him.

The Raiders need to add size and instincts on the outside if they want to succeed in this cover 3 scheme, and Newsome is just that.
