Raiders still need help at the cornerback spot

Greg Newsome II. 48. player. 882. . Cornerback. Wildcats

The Raiders will likely become one of the more zone-heavy defenses in the league in 2021, and there may not be a better zone cornerback in the draft than Greg Newsome II. His profile suggests he could perform well in any defense, but he brings even more value with his ability in zone for the Raiders.

Newsome II is a knowledgeable player with the ability to understand route concepts and close on plays quickly. He doesn’t have a ton of interceptions in his career (only 1) but has still shown the ability to be physical at the catch point with 20 career pass deflections.

He’s not the fastest corner in the draft but has fluidity, quickness, and excellent length that allow him to compete with anyone lined up across from him. He is not Richard Sherman, because no one is, but he has the size and intelligence that allowed Sherman to thrive in Bradley’s scheme when they were together in Seattle.
