Wolverines . Jalen Mayfield. 2. player. 811. . OT

Jalen Mayfield is a prospect that could immediately fill a need for the Las Vegas Raiders and projects primarily as a right tackle at the NFL level. He came out of high school as a prospect that could play on both sides of the line but eventually chose to transition full time to offensive line.

Mayfield was not a major contributor in his freshman season, but excelled as a sophomore in 2019, starting in all 13 games for the Michigan Wolverines. He held his own against some of the best pass rushers in the country in OSU’s Chase Young and Penn State’s Yetur Gross-Matos and was beginning to look like a top-tier prospect.

Unfortunately, he was not able to build on his reputation much in 2020, playing in just two games due to the shortened season and injury. All in all, Mayfield has started just 15 games in three years at the college level, but that number likely would have been much higher were it not for the abbreviated Big Ten season in 2020.

Mayfield has the athletic ability to play right away at the NFL level and has a great combination of size at 6’5″, 320lbs, and has demonstrated elite footwork in both pass and run blocking. His short resume may cause some teams to overlook him and that could once again play right into the hands of the Raiders as he projects as a late-first or second-round pick.
