Wayne Gallman could provide depth behind Josh Jacobs

Wayne Gallman has been a solid backup for the New York Giants since coming into the league as a fourth-round pick in 2017. He was stepped in several times when Saquon Barkley has gone down with an injury and the best year of his career in 2020 after both Barkley and Devonta Freeman were hurt.

In 15 games and ten starts, Gallman rushed for 682 yards and six touchdowns on 147 carries and also recorded 21 catches for 114 yards. None of these numbers are spectacular, but they were good enough to keep the Giants’ running game chugging along after losing their superstar starter and his experienced replacement.

The Giants replaced Gallman with former Raider Devontae Booker on a two-year deal, so the teams may be swapping backup running backs for the 2021 season. Gallman has great speed having run a 4.6 40 yard dash coming out of Clemson and has shown he can be a spot starter in case of injury to the lead back.

Gallman would also likely come cheap and is still young enough at 26 to not have much wear and tear on his body. This is another signing like the Booker one was in 2020 that would not generate many headlines but would provide the Raiders with some much-needed depth at the position, especially if they cut loose Jalen Richard to clear more cap space.
