The Las Vegas Raiders continue to have a confusing narrative since Jon Gruden returned, and this time, their elite center asked to be shown the door.
One consistent bright spot of the Las Vegas Raiders over the years has been center Rodney Hudson, and on Tuesday, he asked to no longer be apart of the rebuild in Las Vegas. Hudson reportedly asked to be released by the Raiders, voiding his guaranteed money according to Mark Sanchez.
The Raiders have been busy getting rid of nearly their entire offensive line this offseason, trading away Trent Brown, releasing Richie Incognito, and reportedly releasing Gabe Jackson as well. None of these moves were really surprising, as each move saved the Raiders a decent amount of money, and each player had their faults.
With just two of the remaining starting lineman still on the roster, the team was forced to make arguably the most shocking move of any team in the league, releasing Rodney Hudson, a player who is arguably the best center in the NFL. Hudson is a player who doesn’t miss games, doesn’t make mistakes in games, doesn’t make mistakes off the field, and has always seemed to be happy as a Raiders despite other top players on the team hating the franchise.
Hudson asked for his release from the Raiders
It was an incredible run for Hudson in the Silver and Black, as he was the anchor of an offensive line that became one of the best in football. With all of the up and downs this franchise has incurred since his arrival, Hudson was a constant, and played hurt, displaying the old-school mentality of Raiders past.
Las Vegas will now not only going to have to fix one of the worst defenses in the NFL, but will now have to completely rebuild the offensive line, something that was not much of an issue in 2020, along with finding a new leader to the line and the team. This franchise has had a lot of shocking moves since Jon Gruden returned, but Hudson asking out was a shock for even us die-hard fans of the franchise.
