Las Vegas Raiders: Top position needs entering Week 2 of 2021 free agency

Cornerback

While the talent pool still available at free safety is thin, the same cannot be said about cornerback, where the Raiders should look to bring in a veteran to start alongside Trayvon Mullen in 2021. Sure, they used a first-round pick on Damon Arnette this past April, but he showed nothing as a rookie, and the team cannot go into next season relying on the thought he is going to be ready to start at the NFL level.

A collection of vets remain available, including guys like Casey Heyward, Richard Sherman, Brian Poole, and A.J. Bouye to name a few. While those names may not be the difference maker this team needs right now, they are all experienced cornerbacks who have gotten the job done at the NFL level, and in Sherman, the Raiders would have the perfect fit of a veteran to help teach, and a terrific player on the field.

The fact that both free safety and cornerback are still needs, and the Raiders have both Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert in their division is cause for concern. They have to focus on those two position groups in a big way over the next month or so if they want to have a legitimate shot at getting over the hump and being a playoff team next season.
