2021 NFL Draft: 5 Non-first round CBs for Las Vegas Raiders to target

. Cornerback. Wildcats . Greg Newsome. 1. player. 882

Greg Newsome is an intriguing prospect that has seen his stock rise since the Northwestern pro day where he ran an unofficial 4.38 second 40. Newsome has solid size at 6’1″,190lbs, and appears to have all of the physical tools to be a starting cornerback in the NFL. He may not have the national profile of other prospects like Patrick Surtain II or Caleb Farley but he could end up being just as good.

Newsome was one of the cornerstones of a terrific Northwestern defense that advanced to the Big Ten title game in 2020 and was rarely tested by opposing quarterbacks. He was the epitome of a shutdown corner for the Wildcats and his skillset and physicality should translate well to the next level.

There were concerns about his deep speed but his recent Pro Day performance may have addressed that. Many believed he would run a 4.5 or so but after an offseason training program that focused on building speed, he ran the aforementioned 4.38 at his pro day.

That number is unofficial but even a 4.4 or so would have been a major box checked for Newsome.

The other concern on Newsome which may see him drop is that he has never played a full season for the Wildcats. He has played six, eight, and three games respectively in his career and there is a worry that that might be a trend. If he can stay healthy and available then he could wind up being one of the steals of the draft for a team that rolls the dice on him.
