The Las Vegas Raiders are relying heavily on Johnathan Abram next season, and he should reach out to a legend for advice.

For the Las Vegas Raiders’ defense to take the next step forward in 2021, they are going to need the best version of Johnathan Abram. As a rookie, Abram looked to be a blossoming star, putting on a show in HBO’s Hard Knocks, before flashing in Week 1 against the Denver Broncos with his speed and strength.

Unfortunately, Abram would end up getting hurt in Week 1 and missing the rest of his rookie season, something that likely affected him in Year 2. He fought with the injury bug, and COVID this past season, and you would think that heading into Year 3, he would reach out to a legend for the Silver and Black that also donned the Silver and Black.

However, as Charles Woodson told Cassie Soto of the Review-Journal, Abram has not reached out to him, but he is ready to help if needed.

Raiders need a better version of Johnathan Abram in 2021

Whether or not he reaches out to Woodson is his prerogative, but one thing the Raiders cannot afford is for Abram to struggle once again in 2021. This is a secondary that lacks talent and playmakers, and by being a first-round selection, Abram was supposed to be an anchor in the defensive backfield for years to come.

Reaching out to Woodson would enable him to pick the brain of someone who was a star at both cornerback and safety, and it is always smart for players to utilize every asset they have. Woodson is certainly an asset, as he will head to Canton this year after being elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

At No. 17, the Raiders need to avoid the safety position, but if they do move back in round one, they could target a player like Trevon Moehrig from TCU. The franchise has not addressed this very important position group at all this offseason, which is a little worrisome considering how much Abram struggled in 2021.
