NFL Mock Draft: How Jets’ Sam Darnold trade impacts Las Vegas Raiders at No. 17
5. Cincinnati Bengals, OT, Penei Sewell
The Cincinnati Bengals waste no time in running their postcard up to the commissioner, as they need to get more protection for Joe Burrow. Penei Sewell is the unquestioned top offensive tackle in this class and is exactly what this team needs for Burrow’s continued progression.
6. Miami Dolphins, WR, Ja’Marr Chase
The Miami Dolphins may have moved back a few spots, going from No. 3, to No. 12, and then back up to No. 6, but they still get a playmaker for Tua Tagovailoa. Ja’Marr Chase was an absolute playmaker during LSU’s title run, and after sitting out in 2020, he is ready to go.
7. Detroit Lions, QB, Justin Fields
The Detroit Lions would likely have to trade up for Justin Fields, but this is a mock of where the picks stand now, and he falls to them at No. 7. Fields has the ability to dominate with his arm, and his legs, and will likely be a top-4 pick before all is said and done.
8. Carolina Panthers, WR, Jaylen Waddle
The Carolina Panthers will roll with Sam Darnold at quarterback, and it will be a good fit, as he already has a relationship with Robby Anderson. At pick No. 8, they get him another weapon in the passing game, as Jaylen Waddle joins Anderson and D.J. Moore for the 2021 campaign.
9. Denver Broncos, LB, Micah Parsons
The Denver Broncos pick up arguably the best defensive player in this draft class at pick No. 9, adding Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons. Like Chase, Parsons sat out the 2020 college football season, but that is not going to affect his draft status.
10. Dallas Cowboys, CB, Patrick Surtain II
Dallas needs help at the cornerback position, and with the No. 10 overall pick, they add Patrick Surtain II, the most NFL-ready defensive back in this draft class. Dallas has the talent on offense to win games in 2021, and if their defense can improve, they should be in the mix for the NFC East title.
