The Las Vegas Raiders drafted Amik Robertson in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, and he will get his shot to start in Year 2.

Heading into the 2021 NFL Draft, the Las Vegas Raiders still have issues in their secondary, an area they neglected so far in free agency. Last year, during the 2020 NFL Draft, the team used a fourth-round pick on Amik Robertson, a talented player from Louisiana Tech who could end up being an exciting player.

Last season, Las Vegas rolled with Lamarcus Joyner in the slot once again, and as was the case in 2019, he looked out of place and lost. When the Raiders brought him in from the Los Angeles Rams, he was an outstanding free safety, and it still boggles my mind that Paul Guenther was so adamant about playing him out of position.

Entering 2021, the Raiders have to be hoping that Robertson can step in and be their slot cornerback, and he should get the opportunity to prove himself this summer.

Raiders need Robertson to step up big time in Year 2

Looking at the Raiders’ current collection of cornerbacks, Trayvon Mullen is the only one who is really set in stone in terms of being a starter next season. Isaiah Johnson is an exciting prospect, one who has the size you look for in a shutdown cornerback, and Damon Arnette will hopefully put it all together next season.

The team did bring back Nevin Lawson, and Keisean Nixon returns, but neither of them has proven to be a real option for the Silver and Black. Robertson could end up being the key for this cornerback room, as if he can step up in 2021, they will have a young CB1 and slot cornerback, and can build around them.

There are still some solid cornerbacks left in this free agency group, and the Raiders have negotiated some money to clear up some cap space. However, Robertson proved at Lousiana Tech that he can be a playmaker from the cornerback spot, and the franchise would like nothing more than for him to be able to step in and become a starter in Year 2.
