2021 NFL Draft: Las Vegas Raiders all-defense 3-round mock draft
Just like in 2020, the Raiders have back-to-back selections in the third round and with the 80th pick, they select Tommy Togiai from Ohio State. Togiai spent three years at Ohio State but has only been a full-time starter for one season.
In his first two seasons as a rotational lineman, Togiai had 26 tackles and 4 tackles for loss but in his single year as a starter, he recorded 23 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks to show off his development into a more complete player. He earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors for his play in 2020 and was one of the best players on an Ohio State team that made the CFP National championship but he was unable to play due to COVID-19 protocols.
The Raiders suddenly have a glut of players on the defensive line but nearly all of them, especially the interior defensive lineman like Jonathan Hankins and Quinton Jefferson signed one-year deals and may not be in Las Vegas for long. This gives Togiai a chance to play as a rotational defensive tackle and work on his pass-rushing ability which is currently highlighted as a potential weakness in his game.
Togiai has a classic nose tackle build, measuring in at 6-2, 300lbs, and could add more mass to his frame to be an even more effective run stopper. He showed off his impressive strength with 40 reps on the bench press at his pro day and even ran a solid 40 time of 5.01 to show off some athleticism as well. Great defenses are often built around a DT that can draw doubles and the Raiders may have one if they snatch up Tommy Togiai in the third round.
