Las Vegas Raiders all-time team: Special teams

Ray Guy. 8. player. 28. . Punter. 1973-86

Some teams overlook special teams, but not the Raiders. One could argue that this NFL franchise has done more over the years to extract value from the specialist positions. Nobody embodies this better than the NFL’s first great punter Ray Guy.

Guy starred collegiately for Southern Miss. The best punter in college football wins the award named after him annually. Guy was a seven-time Pro Bowler, a six-time All-Pro and a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Raiders. The Pro Football Hall of Fame FINALLY got it right and enshrined Guy as a member of the 2014 class. Punting isn’t as valued without a guy like Guy.

11. player. 28. . Placekicker. 2000-present. Sebastian Janikowski

Though he has only made one Pro Bowl in his 17-year NFL career, Sebastian Janikowski is the all-time points leader in Raiders franchise history. Janikowski is a former first-round pick out of Florida State back in 2000. He is known for being left-footed and his ability to make 50-yard field goals in the clutch.

While most of Janikowski’s NFL career has occurred during the worst stretch in franchise history (2003-15), he is a respected placekicker across the league for his commitment to excellence in special teams. Though he isn’t the most accurate kicker in the game today, most teams would love to have him on their team to attempt a 50-yard bomb to win the game.

Honorable mentions: George Blanda (1967-75), Jeff Jaeger (1989-95), Marquette King (2012-present), Shane Lechler (2000-12)
