Las Vegas Raiders all-time team: Defensive ends

28. . Defensive End. 1981-93. Howie Long. 75. player

Back before he was straight up killing it on FOX with Terry Bradshaw and starring in the greatest action movie of our time Firestorm, Howie Long was a total hoss as a pass rusher for the Los Angeles Raiders. The former Villanova Wildcat came into the league in 1981 and proceeded to tear it up for the next 13 years for the Silver and Black.

Long was an eight-time Pro Bowler, a two-time All-Pro, a Super Bowl champion and a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In 13 years for the Raiders, Long amassed 84.0 quarterback sacks in 179 career games. Long might be a pleasant guy on camera, but he was a terror on the field in the 1980s and early 1990s for the Raiders.

. Defensive End. 1983-93, 1997. Greg Townsend. 93. player. 28

While Long got much of the attention in the Raiders’ devastating pass rush in the 1980s and early 1990s, all it did was set up the guy playing opposite of him in Greg Townsend to collect a ton of sacks. Townsend played 12 years for the Raiders over two stints. He still holds the record for most quarterback sacks in franchise history at 107.5.

Townsend’s Pro Football Hall of Fame candidacy is largely panned because he only made two trips to the Pro Bowl in his 13-year NFL career. However, he did have seven seasons with 10 or more quarterback sacks. As a rookie, Townsend was part of the Raiders’ 1983 Super Bowl championship team.

Honorable mentions: Derrick Burgess (2005-08), Ben Davidson and that awesome ‘stache (1964-71)
