2021 NFL Draft: 3 best-case scenario picks at No. 17 for the Las Vegas Raiders

No. 1: Patrick Surtain, CB, Alabama

Although Las Vegas took a cornerback in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, selecting Damon Arnette from Ohio State, it is still a major cause for concern looking at this roster. As of right now, it is really only Trayvon Mullen that the team can trust at the position group, one that continues to be a major problem for the franchise.

Arnette did not prove anything as a rookie, and while they have some solid depth guys, they do not have anyone who we can positively say can start opposite Mullen in 2021. If Patrick Surtain somehow falls to No. 17, a very unlikely scenario, he would be the best-case scenario for this franchise, as he is an incredible talent and the most NFL-ready defensive back in this entire draft class.

Unlike his first two years as general manager of the franchise, Mike Mayock will only have one first-round pick, and he cannot afford to miss on it. Las Vegas has been up and down in the draft since he took over, and he and Jon Gruden have recently rated the worst veteran GM tandem in the league, so getting the 2021 class right is paramount if Mayock wants to stick around much longer.
