Ranking the Las Vegas Raiders first-round picks since 2010

2. Josh Jacobs: 2019 – 24th overall, Alabama

Josh Jacobs edges out his fellow Alabama alumnus for the simple fact that he is still a member of the Silver and Black. After receiving the 24th overall pick, among others, in exchange for Khalil Mack, the Raiders used the selection to draft the shifty running back and it has paid off so far.

In two seasons so far with the Raiders, Jacobs has rushed for 2,215 yards, 19 touchdowns, and has 53 receptions for 404 yards to boot. He has established himself as one of the best running backs in the league and earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2020 for his efforts.

Jacobs has all of the makings of a modern NFL back as he has shown he can do just as much damage on the ground as he can through the air and is only going to get better with time. The Raiders’ offense is at its best when Jacobs has room to operate and he has improved his versatility with each season.

The Raiders defied modern NFL conventions when they used a first-round pick on Jacobs, especially because he was so underutilized at Alabama, but it has already paid off with two great years. They recently paired him up with a fellow Crimson Tide alumnus in Kenyan Drake to move towards a more even backfield share and the reduced wear and tear should be great for Jacobs and his longevity.
