2021 NFL Draft: Three Day 3 QBs the Las Vegas Raiders should target

Jamie Newman. 1. player. 814. . QB. Bulldogs

Jamie Newman is currently listed as a Georgia QB but he never took a snap for the Bulldogs after moving there as a graduate transfer but opted out of the 2020 season. Newman transferred to Georgia from Wake Forest and was expected to start but his decision to opt-out has reduced the amount of tape available to evaluate him.

Newman did however start 16 games over two years with the Demon Deacons and threw for a total of 3,959 yards, 35 touchdowns to 16 interceptions, and rushed for 826 yards and 10 touchdowns. He is a big body who measured in at nearly 6-3, 235lbs and was ranked as one of the top dual-threat QBs coming out of high school.

He is a powerful runner and has good athleticism which he has flashed on tape but he did not run at his pro day so we don’t have an exact 40 time to refer to. He can certainly work on his accuracy as he posted just a 60% completion rate in his time at Wake Forest but he does display confidence and maturity in the pocket.

Many scouts believe that Newman grades out as a career backup with some upside and that is precisely the kind of QB that you can snag on day 3 of the NFL Draft. It is a shame that he opted out of his final season because we could have seen him on an elite team that went 8-2 but we will have to make due with what we have seen from him so far.
