2021 NFL Draft: Optimal picks for the Las Vegas Raiders at No. 17

S Trevon Moehrig, TCU

This will certainly appear to be a reach if the Raiders do in fact go for it, but I like Trevon Moehrig, and I feel he’s going a little under-the-radar in this class because defensive backs who aren’t top-rated corners aren’t really being paid attention to at least the last several drafts I can remember.

The Raiders, as we’ve been saying since Jon Gruden came aboard, need defense. And although a pass rusher or linebacker could it the Raider needs a little better at this time, Johnathan Abram still needs a running mate in the defensive backfield with Erik Harris moving on, and that free safety position is begging to be filled.

It’s still a young secondary with Damon Arnette, Trayvon Mullen, and hulk smash Johnathan Abram, but adding a safety like Moehrig will continue to build upon a young defensive core that will be set up to develop into an elite unit.
