Pick Analysis. Texas A&M. BuddyJohnson. 167. Scouting Report. LB. player. 28

Although the Raiders have invested in the linebacker position, don’t rule out a new addition with Gus Bradley taking over the defense.

According to Justin Melo of The Draft Network, Vegas had meetings with linebackers Anthony Butler of Liberty and Isaiah McDuffie of Boston College.

Vegas doesn’t have a clear-cut backup for Nick Kwiatkoski at middle linebacker. Morrow can play all three positions (weak side, strong side and middle), but he could have a much bigger role after a breakout 2020 campaign, leaving room for another backup to soak up some snaps if Kwiatkoski goes down with an injury.

Initially, Buddy Johnson lined up as an outside linebacker and then made significant strides while transitioning inside over the last two years.

The Texas A&M product flies all over the field, but he’s not a reckless defender. He showed some pass-rushing ability and improvement in coverage with four sacks and three pass breakups and an interception last season.

Writer’s Pick: CB Avery Williams, Boise State

At the end of the draft, teams look to fill out the back end of the roster. Mike Mayock can put a smile on special teams coach Rich Bisaccia’s face with this pick.

Avery Williams has experience as a boundary cornerback, but similar to Amik Robertson, he’s projected to move inside because of his size (5’9″, 195 lbs). Nevertheless, the Boise State product will earn a roster spot for contributions on special teams early in his career.

Williams can cover kicks and return them. He scored a combined nine touchdowns between punt and kick returns through four campaigns.

Wideout Hunter Renfrow does a great job with punt returns, but Williams could be just as good if not better.
