Raiders bolster safety on Day 2 of the 2021 NFL Draft

The reason for the change of heart is the second-round choice the Raiders made in the 2021 NFL Draft. Trevon Moehrig has changed the minds of not only Raider Nation, but media pundits and NFL fans alike. The Raiders “reached” for Alabama offensive tackle Alex Leatherwood, but redeemed themselves by trading up in the second round to take the 2x First-Team All-Big 12 selection and the reigning Jim Thorpe Award winner in Moehrig.

Moehrig was the top safety on most analysts’ draft boards, and the 6’2 200lb free safety will look to shake up the Raiders stagnant safety room. First-round talent that fell in the draft according to some sources, via a back injury.

But that is beside the point, as at only 21-years-old, the big-hitting safety can vie for a spot at any safety position. Abram should be looking over his shoulder on this one,as Moehrig is big, fast, and oh yeah, he can cover.

The Raiders even added a third-round surprise in safety Divine Deablo. The First-team All-ACC safety out of Virginia Tech is a mountain of a man at safety. At 6’3 226lbs, Deablo not only has the most Raider name in the draft, but is a hybrid safety with exceptional length who can lineup in the secondary or even line up at linebacker.

His size and length will make him an ideal matchup vs tight ends.

The defense has significantly improved over the offseason, with a beefed-up defensive line, and now ladies and gentlemen, a significantly improved safety room. With the return of Joseph and the arrivals of Moehrig and Deablo, the Raiders are going to have a very different-looking secondary in 2021.
