Las Vegas Raiders: 2021 Post-draft 53 man roster prediction
Quarterbacks: Derek Carr, Marcus Mariota, Nathan Peterman
Not much has changed in the Raiders QB room since last year except Marcus Mariota being moved up to the clear-cut number two after spending the early part of the season on IR. We expect this group to continue into the 2021 season unless you believe some of the crazy rumors around Aaron Rodgers forcing his way to Las Vegas to replace Derek Carr.
Derek Carr is firmly entrenched as the starting QB in Las Vegas but the news cycle has had him lined up as trade bait for three QBs already this offseason. First, it was Deshaun Watson who has had his own troubles, Russell Wilson who has seemingly backtracked from his polite trade request, and now it’s Aaron Rodgers who is angling to have his GM fired.
We never say never when it comes to Gruden but let’s just say it’s a very small possibility Carr is traded this summer.
There is also the possibility of the team trading Marcus Mariota but he has a no-trade clause so would have to approve the destination as well. If this does happen it likely won’t be until training camp in case of an injury to a current starter.
The Raiders would then have to sign a veteran QB still on the market like Robert Griffin III or Blaine Gabbert.
Nathan Peterman is locked in as the number three QB and Jon Gruden always carries three on his active roster so expect him to stick around as well. Derek Carr is still the franchise QB as we have covered in a recent piece and it does not appear the Raiders have any plans to replace him, and they should have no reason to do so.
