Ranking the 2021 AFC West QBs: Where do the Las Vegas Raiders rank

player. 124. . QB. Kansas City Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes. 1

Patrick Mahomes is not just the best QB in the AFC West but is almost definitively the best QB in the entire NFL. He doesn’t have the accolades that Tom Brady does of course and fell short against him in the Super Bowl but few would argue that Mahomes is ahead of Brady in terms of talent and current ability.

Mahomes makes the extraordinary look routine and the Raiders have the tall task of trying to stop him twice a year for the next decade or more. He lights up even the best defenses in the NFL and it takes a herculean effort from defensive lines to slow him down.

The Raiders did a great job in Week 5 of 2020 with constant pressure and it led to some key mistakes but they were unable to replicate the effort in the rubber match in Las Vegas and he led a 4th quarter drive to decide the game. If the Raiders want to overtake KC in the division they will need a similar effort to Week 5 in every single game and as already mentioned, that is quite the tall task.

Mahomes has the benefit of playing for a great offensive mind in Andy Reid and has incredible weapons in Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce but can also create plenty of magic on his own. We saw in Super Bowl LV that even with four backup offensive linemen, and running for his life, he can still give his team a chance to win. All we can say is why oh why didn’t the Chicago Bears draft him when they had the chance?
