Ranking the 2021 AFC West QBs: Where do the Las Vegas Raiders rank

Drew Lock was one of the worst starting QBs in the NFL in 2020 by most statistical measures and the Denver Broncos knew they needed to make a change at the position for 2021. Rather than swinging for the fences with a trade for Aaron Rodgers, at least so far, or taking a QB like Justin Fields or Mac Jones in the draft, they chose to bring in Teddy Bridgewater to compete for the starting role.

Head coach Vic Fangio has been noncommittal in naming a starting QB just yet as he wants a true training camp and preseason battle before he makes a decision. Unless Drew Lock takes a leap that he has not done yet in his career, we can expect Teddy Bridgewater to be the starter come Week 1.

Bridgewater is a solid veteran QB that can manage games and let Denver’s defense and running game do the majority of the heavy lifting. He is not the risk-taker or gunslinger that Lock is but is considerably more accurate and for a conservative coach like Fangio, that is the approach he likely prefers.

The Broncos have a talented group of pass-catchers and a defense that can keep them in most games so a QB that simply doesn’t make mistakes could be enough to keep them competitive. Both Lock and Bridgewater would be the 4th best QB in the AFC West but the upgrade from the youngster to the veteran could be enough to keep Denver in the playoff race.
