One area of need for the Raiders heading into the offseason was upfront along the defensive line, an area they certainly added to in a big way. Las Vegas took a few fliers on some players, including Solomon Thomas, who was once a top-5 pick of the San Francisco 49ers and is looking to get his career on track in the Silver and Black.
While Thomas has yet to show he can be a dominant player at the NFL level, there is reason to believe that a change of scenery is going to do him good. Gus Bradley’s scheme plays up to his skill set, and he will be surrounded with talent on the inside in Johnathan Hankins, and on the outside in Maxx Crosby, Yannick Ngakoue, and Clelin Ferrell.
This is not to say that the 49ers did not have talent around him, as they are known to spend first-round picks on the defensive line, but with the Raiders, Thomas could end up finally turning the corner. He looks ready to come in and make a legitimate impact, and that is going to be needed on a defense that struggled in a big way last season.
