Las Vegas Raiders 2021 Training Camp preview: Quarterback
Expectations in 2021
Statistically, there is not much more than Carr can do, but with a terrible career record as the starter for the franchise, the fan base is running out of patience with him. In all honesty, he has the weapons around him to have another tremendous season, but it will really depend on the defense if the Raiders are to finally get back to the playoffs.
The expectations for Carr are that he is going to throw for over 4,000 yards again, lead the Raiders to some late wins, and likely complete close to 70 percent of his passes. Mariota will be tasked with being ready, and as we saw against Los Angeles last season, he can come in cold and nearly win a game for the franchise.
Still, the only thing that will matter is if the Raiders are one of the final seven teams standing in the AFC this season, and the expectation is playoffs or bust in Year 8 for Carr.
Overall, this is a solid position group and one that gives the Raiders a good chance to win weekly. Carr has been terrific under Gruden, and while it may be his last season in the Silver and Black, Mariota has proven he can still play at the NFL level and can be counted on if Carr goes down in 2021.
