Raiders roster: 2021 Post-minicamp 53-man roster prediction
Cornerback
- Trayvon Mullen, Casey Hayward, Damon Arnette, Amik Robertson, Nate Hobbs, Nevin Lawson
Trayvon Mullen will likely be corner number one, and free-agent signing Casey Hayward as corner number two. Damon Arnette, who needs to have a much better year this year to make up for last season, will occasionally see the field and likely replace Hayward at times.
If Hayward gets injured or shows a lack of speed, then there is a chance that Arnette eventually starts over him.
There also seems to be a position battle at the slot corner position between Nevin Lawson, Nate Hobbs, and Amik Robertson. All three players have apparently made a good impression and are seriously being considered for the starting role.
It will be interesting to see how this battle plays out during the rest of the offseason and during the preseason.
With a new system comes its challenges. Hayward has apparently helped a lot of the other defensive backs acclimate to the system. For many of these guys, they show the most strength in man coverage, and Gus Bradley runs a zone coverage scheme. So, it’s yet to be seen whether or not they can make that switch.
