Raiders roster: 5 position battles to watch during 2021 training camp

RG and RT – Alex Leatherwood, Nick Martin, Denzelle Good

This is more of a right side of the offensive line battle versus a single position as the Raiders roster has three players to fill the right guard and right tackle positions. On paper, Alex Leatherwood looks to be the starter at right tackle, and Denzelle Good is the starter at right guard, but there has been talk about starting Leatherwood at guard to ease his transition to the NFL.

Good has played both positions for the Raiders and is equally adept at either position, but has played guard for the majority of his career. He provides a great option if some shuffling needs to happen on the offensive line, as is usually the case.

Nick Martin is the wild card in this conversation, as he has been a center for his 4-year NFL career, and is the backup to Andre James on paper. James is the heir apparent to Rodney Hudson, and just signed a big extension, so you can chisel his name in as the starter at center.

Martin was brought in to compete with James but can also play guard and could push Good or Leatherwood for a starting role there.

Having options on the offensive line is a great thing and the Raiders have accomplished their goal of getting younger and cheaper at the position, but there are plenty of questions around the group. This could end up going chalk with Good and Leatherwood, but we have seen guys make great cases for themselves in camp and win a job unexpectedly.
