Las Vegas Raiders rookies: What each draft pick will struggle with in 2021
Trevon Moehrig may have to lead the position group as a rookie
Last season, the Las Vegas Raiders struggled mightily on the defensive side of the ball, as Mike Mayock stated that all three levels needed some playmakers this offseason. After trading up for Trevon Moehrig in the second round, the Raiders got a playmaker at safety and one that could end up having to be the leader in the position group.
Going into his third year, Johnathan Abram is under the microscope, after missing most of his rookie season and then struggling in Year 2. Abram also has a former starter behind him in Karl Joseph, so the strong safety position is definitely one to keep an eye on this summer.
At free safety, Moehrig is the unquestioned starter heading into the summer, and the hope is that he can come in and have a Derwin James-like impact under Bradley in Year 1. The problem is, he may be counted on to lead the position group as a rookie on the field, and that is some serious pressure for a first-year player.
