Las Vegas Raiders rookies: What each draft pick will struggle with in 2021

Tyree Gillespie will be a victim of depth as a rookie

In the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the Las Vegas Raiders selected their second safety of this class, bringing in Tyree Gillespie from Missouri. After selecting Trevon Moehrig in the second round, and bringing back Karl Joseph to the fray this offseason, it is going to be very hard for Gillespie to move up the depth chart as a rookie.

Third-year safety Johnathan Abram is going to start at one spot, and Moehrig at the other, while Kujo is a proven player at the NFL level. Las Vegas also has Dallin Leavitt returning, who is a favorite of Jon Gruden, and former Notre Dame star Shaun Crawford is in the mix after signing as an undrafted free agent.

Gillespie’s rookie season could hinge on Abram, and how well he does, as he looked lost at times this past season. This is a very important year for him, and with Joseph behind him pushing for a starting job, we could see the safety position shuffled up a couple of times if things do not work out in 2021.
