Las Vegas Raiders: Could Derek Carr play out Jon Gruden’s entire contract?
The Jon Gruden and Derek Carr narrative
Since returning to the sidelines to coach the Raiders the biggest narrative about the organization was that Gruden wanted to move on from Derek Carr. From selecting a quarterback early in the draft, specifically in 2019 when the team had three first-round picks, to bringing in a proven veteran star like Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady, every offseason the rumors swirl around No. 4.
However, every offseason comes and goes, and the Raiders go into camp with Carr as the starting quarterback. Since Gruden has returned, Carr has put together some of the best seasons of his career, and while the national media continues to have the Raiders moving on at quarterback, Gruden and general manager Mike Mayock seem dug in with Derek Carr as their signal-caller.
Recently, Kenyan Drake went on SiriusXM NFL Radio to discuss his new team, and he stated that he was blown away by the relationship between head coach and quarterback.
"“With him being the longest-tenured Raider, with him having the kind of connection that he has with (Coach Jon) Gruden, it’s kind of crazy,” Drake said. “It’s almost like when we’re in meetings, literally any question Gruden asks him, it’s like second nature to him."
When it comes to head coach and quarterback, it seems like Gruden is more than happy with Derek Carr being his guy.
