Las Vegas Raiders: Could Derek Carr play out Jon Gruden’s entire contract?

Are Gruden and Derek Carr together for the long haul?

So now we ask the question as to whether or not Derek Carr will be the starting quarterback not only this season but for the rest of Jon Gruden’s contract. Gruden is under contract until after the 2027 NFL season, and the hope is that by that time, the organization is in a much better place.

Since he has come back, it seems like the Raiders revamp their roster yearly, and this past offseason, he shuffled the deck along the offensive line, as well as focused on improving a porous defense. But when it comes to the quarterback spot, he has stood with Carr, despite all the reports that he loves every quarterback coming out, or every quarterback that is available in free agency.

The truth is, Gruden, likes veteran guys under center, and in Carr, he has molded someone who knows his system, and someone that he trusts. At this point in his career, I do not see Gruden making a move to another quarterback that he has to take so much time to learn his system, and maybe he thinks Carr is just as good as anyone he could get on the open market.

The bottom line is, by the end of Gruden’s current contract, Carr will still only be 36 years old, which is the same age that Gannon was during his prime with Gruden back in the early 2000s. Also, Carr has said he will not play for another franchise, and based on the relationship with his head coach, he just may end up playing out Gruden’s contract after all is said and done.
