Las Vegas Raiders: 5 potential cut candidates the team could sign this summer

Aldon Smith, DE, Seattle Seahawks

I am sure everyone is aware of Aldon Smith’s past issues, his four years of suspensions, and his short run with the Raiders, but if we have the ability to bring in a player with this much skill on a cheap contract, I say risk it. Smith was actually pretty solid during his time in the Silver and Black and seemed to be getting everything back on track in his life.

Although Smith could be in trouble again, he signed to the Seattle Seahawks on a league minimum salary, meaning if he was released, he would likely do that again. If the Raiders can bring in Smith for the league minimum, even if he only plays half the season, it would be worth it.

Smith’s familiarity with Gruden would help with this signing, as is the fact that the Raiders could use him as a situational edge rusher. This is a defense that is being revamped across all three levels, and in Smith, they would add a player who is very low-risk in terms of a contract but could yield some big rewards.
