Las Vegas Raiders: 3 offensive departures that could end up hurting in 2021
Kirby Wilson, Running Backs coach
Kirby Wilson, who was hired by the Las Vegas Raiders in 2019, helped contribute to the success of the team’s running game as he helped develop Josh Jacobs and the running back committee. Wilson’s abrupt retirement two weeks before training camp came as a shock to Raiders players and fans alike, as many players including fullback Alec Ingold expressed their gratitude for the time Coach Wilson spent with the young group.
With Wilson’s departure, many questions arise, especially with the addition of key free-agent signing Kenyan Drake, who will share the backfield with Jacobs as Jon Gruden looks to build a two-headed monster in the backfield. The biggest question is ‘how will the Raiders running back corp get up to speed with the newly updated offensive line in time to be successful this season?’
The Raiders do not have any room for error in 2021, and whoever replaces Wilson must be highly competent and able to get the Raiders running backs on the same page before the September 13 Monday Night Football kickoff. This has a chance to be one of the better duos in the game in 2021, but they will need a leader sooner than later.
