Las Vegas Raiders: 53-man roster prediction entering 2021 training camp
Safeties: Johnathan Abrams, Tre’Von Moehrig, Karl Joseph, Tyreese Gillespie
The drop of Tre’Von Moehrig in the draft was a gift for the Raiders, as he will slot in perfectly as the team’s high safety in the cover-3 scheme. Next to him will be Johnathan Abram, who struggled a ton in 2020 with his tackling, which also led to injury issues, but a role closer to the line of scrimmage should suit him well.
Behind them will be veteran Karl Joseph, who is back with the team after just one year in Cleveland. The hope is that Joseph can not only provide leadership for the group but also push Abram to be the best possible version of himself in Year 3.
Then there is rookie Tyreese Gillespie, who was a bit undervalued in the draft but don’t be shocked if he challenges Abrams for the strong safety role down the road. Overall, this is as much depth and as much talent as we have seen at the safety position within this franchise in a long time.
