Las Vegas Raiders: 53-man roster prediction entering 2021 training camp

Quarterbacks: Derek Carr, Marcus Mariota, Nathan Peterman

The talks about moving on from Derek Carr will never end, but the reality remains the same, and that is that he is the guy in Las Vegas and goes into 2021 playing some of the best football of his career. Carr threw for over 4,100 yards in 2020, and in Year 4 under Jon Gruden, there is little reason to think he can’t continue to put up good counting stats.

The wins will need to start accompanying the stats if he wants the noise about his future ever to end, but that’s for another article. At the moment, there is no doubt he is the starter.

Backing up Carr is Marcus Mariota, who returns to the team after taking a pay cut this offseason. His presence on the roster brings an actual calming effect because Gruden knows the offense won’t fall off a cliff if Carr happens to miss a game or two.

Carr’s health is the top priority on the team, but a solid backup is never a bad investment, and then there’s Nathan Peterman, who I won’t pretend is bringing much to the table, but Gruden likes the guy, so he will be on the team.
