Las Vegas Raiders: Early takeaways from the start of 2021 training camp
2020 first-round picks look ready for Year 2
One of the bigger disappointments from the 2020 NFL season was the play of the Raiders two first-round draft picks. Henry Ruggs III was supposed to come in and be the team’s WR1, this after being the first wideout taken in the 2020 NFL Draft, and Damon Arnette was supposed to be an answer at cornerback.
Well, due to injuries, COVID, and inconsistent play, both players had a rookie season that they would like to forget, and both have big expectations going into Year 2. If the first few days of camp are any indication, this duo came into the summer ready to roll, as they have bulked up, and look quite explosive.
The hope is that Ruggs can come in and be the true WR1 in Year 2, making veterans like John Brown and Willie Snead more of supplementary pieces. If Arnette can be an Opening Day starter, as Jon Gruden has said, then they could have figured out the cornerback position, which would be the first time they have done so in quite some time.
