Las Vegas Raiders: Player with most to prove at each defensive position in 2021

Cornerback: Damon Arnette

Once again, the Raiders made a surprise pick in the first round, selecting Ohio State cornerback Damon Arnette, a player that most people did not believe would be a first-round pick in the draft. Arnette has concerns coming into the league, including a hand injury and a character concern about whether he really enjoyed football or not.

Unfortunately, both proved to be issues.

Arnette was a massive letdown last season, as he did not play well when he was on the field, had injury issues, and apparently did not have the best work ethic. With that being said, Arnette still has a chance to turn it around this season, as Gruden has stated that Arnette is a day one starter despite Hayward getting more first-team reps at camp.

The Raiders entire secondary struggled last season, so we can possibly give Arnette the benefit of the doubt, but if he struggles this season, there are plenty of corners on the roster that will be willing to take his spot. He came to camp bulked up and ready to go, so excitement and attention are surrounding the second-year player.
