Las Vegas Raiders 2021 Training Camp: The Clelin Ferrell conundrum
Ferrell has little margin for error
As the Las Vegas Raiders approach the padded portion of their training camp, the situation for defensive end Clelin Ferrell is not looking ideal. Numerous reports have emerged from Raiders training camp that he is on the second-string unit, which is normally fine, but not acceptable for a top 5 draft pick in year three through the eyes of many.
Luckily, it is still early on in camp, and the meaningful portion (Padded practices) begins on Tuesday this week. For Ferrell, if he finishes strong in camp, it can alleviate some pressure on him before the regular season begins, but there is a ton of talent around him now at the defensive end position.
One of the key moves for the Raiders this offseason was bringing in Yannick Ngakoue via free agency, and he has looked more than as good as advertised so far. When you also add in the fact that Maxx Crosby is a proven edge rusher, and Malcolm Koonce came in via the 2021 NFL Draft, Ferrell no longer has as much wiggle room as he used to.
