The Las Vegas Raiders will eventually have to get the roster to 53 men heading into Week 1, so what is the deal with Nathan Peterman?

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden has notoriously loved quarterbacks. His affinity for different quarterbacks predates his famed ESPN show, as he once had five quality quarterbacks rostered on the 2007 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Since returning to the Raiders in 2018, Gruden has stuck with current starting Quarterback Derek Carr, but he has managed to bring in an influx of backups. Aside from Nathan Peterman’s addition to the quarterback room in late 2018, Gruden has also had Connor Cook, E.J. Manuel, Christian Hackenberg, A.J. McCarron, Mike Glennon, DeShone Kizer, and current backup Marcus Mariota, on top of multiple camp arms.

Gruden just loves quarterbacks.

Peterman, the third-string quarterback is now entering his fifth season in the NFL and his 3rd full season with Gruden, Carr, and the Raiders. He was given $1 million in guaranteed money this season to return as the third string quarterback behind Carr and Mariota, and Gruden seems to believe that there is some long-term benefit to keeping Peterman around, despite him already being 27 years old.
