Clelin Ferrell, Defensive Lineman

The Raiders made Clelin Ferrell the No. 4 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, and the hope was that the two-time national champion would be a dominant edge rusher in the Silver and Black. The team had traded away Khalil Mack the summer before, and though Kentucky’s Josh Allen was still available, they instead decided to go with Ferrell.

Since joining the organization, Ferrell has had his moments, proving to be solid against the run, but he has not impacted the pass rush at all. That just has not been part of his game and with the team bringing in Yannick Ngakoue this offseason, he and Maxx Crosby are going to be the starters on the edge.

That leaves Ferrell in no man’s land, as the plan is to use him on the inside, and out, but the team has depth in both areas. Defensive tackle has been revamped with veteran talent this offseason, and Malcolm Koonce has looked solid coming off the edge, so Ferrell could be a valuable trade piece as teams start to wind down their rosters.
