Marcus Mariota, Quarterback

Nathan Peterman has taken nearly every snap at quarterback for the Raiders this offseason, and while he has not set the world on fire, he has shown that he can run Jon Gruden’s offense in a pinch. While Peterman has been the man under center this summer, it is Marcus Mariota who will be the backup to Derek Carr in 2021 once again, giving the team great stability at the most important position in sports.

However, Mariota has stated that he is keeping an eye on the rest of the league in terms of locking down another starting job, so trading him is not out of the cards. We have seen teams lacking depth at the position, and some starters really struggling this summer, and as he showed last season, Mariota can still come in and be a productive starter.

The odds are, Mariota will be the backup to Carr this season, but with teams having issues at quarterback this summer, he certainly has a bunch of trade value. He has a no-trade clause in his contract, but if he has an opportunity to start in 2021, I believe he would waive that for a chance to go back to being a starter in the league.
